 About Thunder The Fire Dog
About Thunder
Our Fantastic Fire Dog!
Thunder is a veteran fire dog. For years, she was assigned to a fire company in Chicago. Her main role was that of a firefighting dog (meaning she followed and often led her crew into burning buildings each day). In that time, she received multiple awards for valor and achieved the highest certifications issued by the Fire Dog HQ. After a historic career, she was recruited to be an Instructor at the Fire Dog Academy. Now, Thunder travels anywhere necessary to work with firefighters and train their fire puppies to be great fire dogs.
What Parents are saying
What Parents
are saying

She Says What You're Thinking.

"I get mad at the babysitter when she pacifies the kids with the iPad...because that was my plan! I wouldn't admit it publicly, but they're in front of devices too much. They're going to love this! A no-brainer for me." Samantha K.

Dad Who Never Grew Up

"I used to chase fire trucks down the street. That was when I was 25 :) At 38, my daughter is the one who can't get enough of the lights and sirens. We share this passion and this club will only bring us closer!" Peter M.
Why Kids Benefit From offline reading
Studies Referenced in FAQs Below
INCREASES EMPATHY & KINDNESS
Studies reveal that kids who spend more time off devices have increased interpersonal skills. This manifests in empathy, kindness and an ability to work better together.
Accelerates Reading Skill
The stories are written to be read by parents or read by those just learning. This fun activity both entertains and provides a focused activity for supporting their reading skills.
Increases Creativity
It's well documented that device use is a creativity killer. Remember when you were a kid. Most activities required you to use your imagination. Our storylines make that easy.
Better Sleep & Focus
Recent evidence shows that kids spending more time reading and less time on devices are more calm, focus more, sleep better and kinder to one another. All good stuff.
WHY PARENTS LIKE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO REDUCE DEVICE TIME
"Tablets are the ultimate shortcut tools: Unlike a mother reading a story to a child, for example, a smartphone-told story spoon-feeds images, words, and pictures all at once to a young reader. Rather than having to take the time to process a mother’s voice into words, visualize complete pictures and exert a mental effort to follow a story line, kids who follow stories on their smartphones get lazy. The device does the thinking for them, and as a result, their own cognitive muscles remain weak." Psychology Today

What is the ideal age range for the club?
There are two age groups: Kids who have letters read to them OR kids learning to read or can read already. It's fun for all...including adults.

Can my child write back to Thunder the Fire Dog?
Yes, of course.
Is Thunder a real dog?
Thunder is based on one amazing REAL fire dog who led firefighters into burning buildings, was awarded a medal for saving a trapped boy's life in a fire, and even more amazingly trained the other fire puppy in the firehouse, who was deaf, to be a great fire dog.
Why do we close enrollment.
Once we close the doors, we open a world of adventure and learning. We focus on content creation and delivery, NOT selling or getting new members. When you're a member of the FIRE DOG MAIL CLUB, you're part of the family. Also, Thunder is a storyteller. She can only write so many letters, so opening and closing the club allows her to focus on one on-going storyline at a time.
How much does this club cost?
This first Mini-Membership is a one-time fee of $37 for 8 weeks of letters. If you want a discount message us on FB.
Where do we mail letter?
We mail letters anywhere in the United States. Unfortunately, we're currently limited, but please message us if you want to know when we go international!

Who created Thunder's Mail Club?
*A Chicago Fire Lieutenant created the club to provide an experience for kids similar to visiting the firehouse. Many kids are overwhelmed when they speak with an actual firefighter. Thunder provides them a friend who stands about the same height and has the same enthusiasm those kids do.
